Map of Old Town LublinLublin, the largest city in southeastern Poland, is well endowed with historic buildings. It is also an important center of academic life and a city marked with Jewish culture.

The city, with the first permanent settlement on its site estimated to be in the 6th or 7th century, has seen and experienced a lot. A target for attacks (Tatars, Swedes, Germans), was destroyed and rebuilt, but also thrived as a great trade center and a meeting place for Polish and Lithuanian nobles. In 1944, after Lublin had been liberated from the Nazis, Poland’s first communist government arrived here on the tanks of the Red Army, making Lublin the capital of Poland for awhile.

Volunteers Essential to Breast Cancer 3-Day Success

3Day Breast CancerAll-volunteer crew members, like Michael Langowski of Chicago recognized as the backbone of the event

Chicago – may 2, 2008From serving meals to picking up trash, providing medical assistance and filling water bottles, the all-volunteer crew is vital to the success of the Breast Cancer 3-Day. In honor of National Volunteer Week, April 27-May 3, the Breast Cancer 3-Day recognizes the hundreds of men and women who devote four days to ensure each walker completes the 60-mile journey.

Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a series of three-day, 60-mile walks that raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs. Throughout the event participants receive everything they need for an enjoyable experience: hot meals, snacks galore, medical assistance, sleeping tents, entertainment and even transportation for tired feet. As most of these services are provided by Breast Cancer 3-Day crew members, the event would not be possible without their commitment.
