NORWAY’S TOP SKI JUMPERS HEAD FOR FOX RIVER GROVE

at the site of the famous Norge Ski Jump in an effort to capture top honors while competing in the oldest continuous ski jumping tournament in North America.

Athletes from Norway, Finland, Poland and Canada will all descend on the 107 year old ski jumping club just a day before the spectacular, daring event unfolds at noon both days.

Top U.S. jumpers have been training for months hoping to crowd the medal podium this year.  Last year the Europeans as well as the Russian team dominated the winning column.  Many of the top US jumpers that will be competing are from the Cary Grove area and train year round at Norge, so for them a place on the winner’s podium has special meaning.

Sunday, Norge will be hosting the fourth leg of a five hill combination meet that will begin on Jan. 18 in Ishpeming, Mi., then go to Eau Claire, Wisc. on Jan. 20.  Next will be Minneapolis on Jan. 25, Norge on the Jan. 29 and the final meet will be held in Westby, Wisc. on Feb. 3 and 4.

On both days of the Norge competition the gates will open at 11am.  Admission is $15 at the gate or $10 in advance if purchased from area merchants.  A complete list of pre-sale locations can be found at www.norgeskiclub.com.

Norge is located just 2 blocks north of the intersection of Rts. 22 and 14 in Fox River Grove.  There will be free shuttle bus service from the FRG train station as well as Dominick’s , also in FRG.
