Polish Teachers Association of America, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago and the Polish Museum of America partner to unveil an exhibit on November 4th at 1:30pm at the Polish Museum of America to honor the Polish Righteous Among the Nations, a group of seemingly ordinary men and women living during WWII who—in a world of total moral collapse—demonstrated extraordinary courage and risked their own lives to rescue Jews from the Holocaust.
The Exhibit tells a story of a group of Polish gentiles living in German-occupied Poland during WWII who sheltered and aided Jewish men, women, and children during the Holocaust. The Exhibit also documents the risks involved in this endeavor as Polish citizens were the only people in the German Nazi-occupied Europe who—along with their families—were summarily executed by the German military if caught helping Jews.
Poland is the nation which has by far the highest number of honorees from any country awarded by the State of Israel with the Righteous Among the Nations medal. This Exhibit is a tribute to the rescuers who by saving a single life helped save entire generations that flourish until this day.
The exhibit is by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), a Polish institution established to preserve the memory of the losses suffered by the Polish Nation during WWII. The unveiling of the exhibit will be attended by Consul General of the Republic of Poland Paulina Kapuścińska, President of the Polish Teachers Association of America Ewa Koch, President of the Polish Museum of America Maria Cieśla as well as representatives of IPN – Ewa Leniart, Director of the IPN Rzeszów branch, dr Krzysztof Kaczmarski from the IPN Educational Bureau in Rzeszów and dr Elżbieta Rączy, co-author of the exhibit.
The opening of the exhibit will be accompanied by a competition for school children titled „Polish Righteous Among the Nations – restoring the memory of their lives”. Each school child has prepared a single photo album page documenting the Polish Righteous gentiles who rescued Jews during WWII. Their works will be evaluated by the participants of the opening ceremony.
The exhibit will be on display November 4th through November 14th and will be located at the Polish Museum of America, 984 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago.

Zrzeszenie Nauczycieli Polskich w Ameryce oraz Konsulat Generalny RP w Chicago mają zaszczyt zaprosić Państwa na uroczyste otwarcie wystawy zatytułowanej „Sprawiedliwi wśród Narodów Świata: Pomoc Polaków dla ludności żydowskiej w Polsce połudnowo-wschodniej w latach 1939–1945.” Uroczysta inauguracja wystawy odbędzie się 4 listopada o godzinie 13:30 w Muzeum Polskim w Ameryce przy 984 North Milwaukee Avenue w Chicago.
Wystawa przygotowana została przez Instytut Pamięci Narodowej, oddział w Rzeszowie. Składa się z 24 paneli przedstawiających archiwalne fotografie, dokumenty, doniesienia prasowe oraz portrety zwykłych Polaków pomagających Żydom i ukrywających ich rodziny podczas II wojny światowej. Zdjęcia i dokumenty opatrzone są obszernymi komentarzami w dwóch wersjach językowych: polskiej i angielskiej. Każda informacja, fotografia i dokument to osobna historia cichego heroizmu, odruchu serca, ludzkiej solidarności przedstawicieli dwu narodów – polskiego i żydowskiego – w czasach Zagłady.
W uroczystej inauguracji wystawy w Muzeum Polskim w Ameryce udział weźmie m.in. Ewa Leniart, Dyrektor Oddziału Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej w Rzeszowie, dr Krzysztof Kaczmarski, Naczelnik Oddziałowego Biura Edukacji Publicznej IPN w Rzeszowie oraz dr Elżbieta Rączy, współautorka wystawy.
W czasie wystawy zaprezentowane zostaną prace młodzieży szkół polonijnych, które przygotowane zostały na konkurs „Polscy Sprawiedliwi – przywracanie pamięci.” Prace konkursowe, mające formę pojedynczej kartki z albumu, przedstawiają losy wybranej osoby lub polskiej rodziny, która z narażeniem własnego życia ratowała Żydów w czasie wojny. W trakcie inauguracji laureaci oraz opiekujący się nimi nauczyciele odbiorą wyróżnienia i nagrody.
