Krynica Krynica, Poland will host the International Ice Hockey Federation (Division-I, Group-B) Tournament April 15-21.   The resort town in the very southeast part of Poland is noted for its winter sports activities.  The area is a popular skiing and spa destination and Krynica-Zdroj, way back in 1931, hosted the World IIHF championships.    
National Teams from Australia, Korea, Lithuania, Netherlands, Romania and host Poland will be participating.  Currently, Poland ranks 23 out of 48 men’s IIHF National Teams.  The winner of the Krynica tourney will be relegated up a division next year.  
The top men’s division tournament (2012 World IIHF Championship) which Team USA will participate in will be played in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.  National Hockey League players that are not involved in the Stanly Cup playoffs will participate for their respective National Teams.    
The hockey pedigree of Polish ice hockey started organized play in 1922.  Three years later, four clubs in Warsaw established the Polish Ice Hockey Federation.  The following year in 1926, Poland became a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Poland hosted the men’s Under-20 Division-II tourney in Tychy recently.
