Education Program for Family Caregivers

 

On six consecutive Thursday’s, beginning January 12, 2012, Stickney Township Office on Aging will present the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program from 1:30 to 4:00 at the Louis S. Viverito Senior Center located at 7745 S. Leamington Ave. in Burbank.

 

“Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week educational program, will be presented by Stickney Township Office on Aging in partnership with Solutions for Care” said Louis S. Viverito, Stickney Township Supervisor.  “The program is designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend.  Participants will benefit from this class whether they are assisting with the care of a parent, spouse, or friend who lives at home, in a nursing home, or across the country.”  This program is intended for nonprofessional caregivers. 

 

Powerful Tools for Caregivers was developed by Legacy Caregiver Services in Portland, OR, and has been shown to reduce caregiver guilt, anger, and depression; improve caregiver self-care and communication skills’ and increase community service use.
