Kings Point, N.Y .. U.S. Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY) (center) gave Poland’s chances for inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program an important boost when he agreed to add his name to the list of co-sponsors of the new 2012 version of proposed legislation intended to expand the program.
Shown with Representative Ackerman are Frank Milewski (left), president of the Downstate New York Division of the Polish American Congress and Chet Szarejko (right), who serves as chairman of the organization’s Political Activities
Committee.
The Polish American Congress has spent several years fighting for legislation that would allow Polish citizens to visit the United States without going through the expense and frustration of applying for a U.S. visa and often being refused
despite their attempts.
“Travelers from 36 different countries are already exempt. Poland is one of America’s strongest and most reliable allies and deserves the same exemption,” said Szarejko.
Congressman Ackerman’s district includes the northeast section of New York City’s Queens County and extends over the city line to take in the northwest portion of Long Island’s Nassau County.
