DETROIT  Major League Baseball will again team up to celebrate the richness of Polish culture on Polish-American night at Comerica Park on Friday, May 28, starting at 5:30 PM. 

 

The Detroit Tigers will host the Oakland Athletics at 7:05 PM.  This will be the 40th consecutive year of Polish-American Baseball Night in Detroit.

 

The pre-game festivities will include performances by 13 local dance troupes.  Also, the Polish Scouts will be showing their skills.

 

Prior to the game, a special feature will be the singing of the Polish national anthem, by Robert Szczublewski. 

 

The color and pageantry of Polish folk dancing will be the highlight.  There will also be a special ceremony honoring volunteers and Polish fraternal organizations.  Wally Ozog, President of the National Polish Roman Catholic Union of America will be noted for his long time efforts in keeping this baseball tradition active. 

 

Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch will be Jerry Lubiarz of PRCUA #1368 and Nicole Blaszczyk, Miss Michigan-2009.

 

Besides having the baseball field covered with lively Polka dancing, the colorful spectacle will continue with great Polka music.  The grand part of the pre-game celebration will be the music. This will include The Natural Tones, The Kielbasa Kings and the ever popular, Big Daddy Lackowski & the La-De-Das.

 

 

The pregame show will be dedicated to the memories of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and First Lady Maria Kaczynski and Members of the Presidential Delegation to Katyn that perished in the April 10, 2010 airplane crash in Smolensk, Russia.

 

Popular television personality, Chuck Gaidica and Polish Night Coordinator, Barb Toboy will be at the pregame microphone.

 

The Detroit Tigers will also host the Friday postgame “Fireworks Show”, (weather permitting).

 

Each $35 ticket package includes an upper deck Box Seat, a Polish-American Tiger’s

T-shirt, hot dog, bag of chips and a small Pepsi.  Plus, $5 from every package sold will donated to the Polish-American Congress Charitable Foundation.

 

All the favorite stadium fixtures including the Baseball Carousal and the Detroit Tiger’s historical ‘Walk of Fame’, inside of Comerica Park will be available.
