Request for support – a letter to President Trump from chapters of the Polish American Congress
Dear President Donald Trump,
We Polish-Americans are writing to you because you are the person who can help protect democracy in Poland from an ongoing coup d’état.
Mr. President, you are a great friend of Poland and of President Nawrocki. For us Polish-Americans, you and Ronald Reagan are among the greatest friends Poland has ever had.
The Polish American community is deeply troubled by the ongoing forceful police attack on the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, engineered by the current Tusk government, whose coalition also includes former communist party members and their supporters.
To install its own people on the Constitutional Tribunal, the Tusk government used police action to remove the Chief of the Constitutional Tribunal, who was legally appointed by the Polish President with tenure until 2031. Other legally appointed judges were also forced out.
Using the police force to change the composition of the highest Polish court, the 15-member Constitutional Tribunal, is in clear conflict with the basic democratic principle of the separation of powers.
It threatens 36 years of successful democracy building in Poland since the fall of the Iron Curtain and undermines constitutional norms and the rule of law.
Polish Americans who are committed to liberty and the rule of law have voted for you and also support President Nawrocki, and vehemently oppose the illegal actions of the Tusk government. We are 10 million strong in the United States.
We need your and your administration’s help and leadership in stopping the dismantling of democracy and the rule of law in Poland.
Thank you for standing up for a loyal ally in need.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Presidents of Polish American Congress, Divisions,
Signed:
Jolanta Halaczkiewicz – President, Polish American Congress of Michigan,
Jerzy Bogdziewicz – President, Polish American Congress of Florida,
