In the final match of the regular season in Poland, U.S. middle blocker Ryan Millar (Alpine, Calif.) and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów defeated AZS UWM Olsztyn, 25-19, 27-25, 25-18 on Jan. 26. Millar started all three sets and scored nine points on six kills, two blocks and one ace. Resovia Rzeszów finished the regular season in second place in the league.
In the first playoff matches for places 1-6, Resovia Rzeszów beat AZS Politechnika Warszawska, 3-1 (25-18, 26-28, 25-15, 25-22) on Jan. 29. Millar started all four sets and scored 12 points on seven kills and five blocks.
CUP UPDATES
In the CEV Champions League, Ball, Priddy and visiting Zenit Kazan defeated Slovenia’s ACH Volley Bled, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16 on Feb. 2 in the 12-team playoff phase.
Priddy started all three sets and scored nine points on eight kills (0.53 hitting percentage) and one ace. He was also credited with 16 receptions, 81 percent positive and 56 percent excellent.
Ball started all three sets and scored five points on two kills, one block and two aces. He also set Kazan to a 0.65 hitting percentage. According to the statistics, Kazan did not commit a hitting error.
The two teams will play again on Feb. 9 in Kazan.
In the Challenge Round of the CEV Cup, Millar and visiting Asseco Resovia Rzeszów defeated Spain’s CAI Teruel, (25-15, 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 17-15) on Feb. 2. The two teams will play again on Feb. 8 in Poland.
In the quarterfinals of the CEV Challenge Cup, Hansen and Fakel Novy Urengoi defeated Turkey’s visiting Arkas Izmir, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 30-28) on Feb. 3.
Hansen substituted in the first set and started the next three, scoring two points on one kill and one block and setting Novy Urengoi to a 0.42 hitting percentage. The two teams will play again on Feb. 9 in Turkey.
