2nd Generationers to Gather on All Souls Day

The veterans plot is small lesson in Polish history, as the crosses on the graves contain the names of those who contributed to the Polish cause during WWII and the places where they participated in the war effort. The plot is anchored by a memorial cross designed by the late Polish artist Jozef Slawinski who is also buried at the site. There is also a monument that describes how those who are buried there arrived in Buffalo.

An informal group of around 30 so-called “2nd generationers” first gathered last Christmas season to share Oplatek and stories of their parents and grandparents. They decided to meet from time to time throughout the year and to document their ancestors’ stories. Plans are now underway for the construction of a website about the post-WWII immigrants to Buffalo.

St. Stanislaus B. & M. Cemetery is located at 700 Pine Ridge Rd. in Cheektowaga. The cemetery closes at dusk.
