America’s oldest Polish Cultural Mission partners with Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum to host national observance of the 72nd Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Thursday, February 9th, 2017.
To commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz (January 27th, 1945), The Polish Mission of the Orchard Lake Schools, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of Poland in New York, will present the Forbidden Art exhibition to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for a comprehensive Holocaust educational program. Forbidden Art is a collection of twenty examples of artwork created by concentration/death camp inmates. Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Dr. Piotr Cywiński will open the exhibition, and offer a lecture series to the cadets. Among other speakers will also be Consul General Maciej Golubiewski and Colonel Michał Sprengel, Acting Defense Attaché from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland.
The main theme of the 72nd anniversary is “Time” symbolized by the watch, found during archaeological work carried out in a gas chamber and the crematorium III in 1967. It was returned to the Museum this year.

The cooperation between The Polish Mission and A-BSM has been endorsed by the President and Vice President of the United States. This event marks U.S. participation in worldwide commemorations of the liberation of Auschwitz.
The event is co-financed by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York.
