American Cancer Society calls Broward residents to ‘Walk Out on Cancer’ on March 23, 2017

“Recent research shows that physical activity can affect the risk of developing cancer,” said Monique Stephens, an American Cancer Society representative. “More than 50 percent of Americans do not engage in enough regular physical activity. On March 23, we’re encouraging everyone everywhere across Broward County to take a break and ‘Walk Out on Cancer’ all while raising funds toward the American Cancer Society.”

According to the American Cancer Society, 124,740 new cancer cases will be diagnosed in 2017. Research indicates being active helps reduce cancer risk by helping with weight control, improving hormone levels and advancing the immune system. Latest recommendations for adults call for at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity each week, or an equivalent combination, preferably spread throughout the week.

People can participate from Walk Out on Cancer on March 23 wherever they are, at any time. They can also donate to the initiative at www.walkoutoncancer.org, and funds raised will help the American Cancer Society provide free information on early detection and prevention, plus assistance to cancer patients.
