The 22-year-old American will race alongside David Murry and Anthony Lazzaro in the squad’s #04 Ford GT at the season-opening Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida on March 19 and 10 hour/1000 mile Petit Le Mans championship finale at Road Atlanta on October 1.
He will also be the car’s designated third driver during this June’s Le Mans 24 Hours should the team’s second entry be promoted from the reserve list.
Braun’s impressive CV includes stints as a Ford works driver in NASCAR’s Nationwide and Truck series as well as extensive Grand-Am prototype and GT experience. His ALMS career began at Sebring in 2007 aged just 18 before going on to claim a fine runner-up finish in GT2 at Le Mans later that year.
Colin Braun: “Sebring is such a special race so I’m really excited and looking forward to it. The opportunity to run with Robertson Racing and the Ford GT in particular – it’s just such an iconic car – means it’s going to be a lot of fun. I jumped at the chance knowing how great the team are, especially now they’re running with Michelin tyres, and think there’s a lot of potential for a strong result.
“That I’ve raced at Sebring before is also going to be a big help. It’s a tough place to learn so I’m really excited to be going back. We’ll also be testing again there before the race, which will be a useful refresher. I know how hard the team is working to prepare the cars and they have clearly taken a step forward in terms of performance over the winter. I’m sure we can get a strong result.”
Andrew ‘H’ Smith, Robertson Racing Team Manager: “Unfortunately Rob Bell’s commitments elsewhere have prevented him from running with us at Sebring and Petit. However, in Colin we have a highly talented young guy whose youthful exuberance and speed will complement David’s and Anthony’s wealth of experience. He’s raced at the event before so is well aware of Sebring’s unique demands.”
The opening round of this season’s ALMS at Sebring, which has also been designated an Intercontinental Le Mans Cup race, takes place from March 16-19.
