CARDINAL GEORGE TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH MASSES AND CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL VISIT

 

Chicago, IL (December 19, 2013) – Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago, will observe the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with liturgical celebrations at Holy Name Cathedral and the Cook County Department of Corrections. The Cardinal will also continue his annual Christmas tradition of visiting with seriously ill children and their families at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

As is his custom, Cardinal George will be the main celebrant and homilist at Midnight Mass at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior Streets. T

he evening’s liturgical music program will begin at 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24; Mass will follow at 12 a.m.
on December 25. WGN-TV/Channel 9 will broadcast this Mass live beginning at 12 a.m. for viewers in Chicago and the suburbs. Fr. Greg Sakowitz will provide English language commentary throughout the broadcast. Midnight Mass will be streamed live on WGN TV’s web site: www.wgntv.com.

A Christmas Mass pre-recorded at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and celebrated by Cardinal George, will be broadcast on WGN-TV/Channel 9, at 8 a.m. on Christmas Day.

On Christmas morning, Wednesday, December 25, Cardinal George will celebrate Mass at 9 a.m. with male detainees in Division 11, a minimum security division, at the Cook County Department of Corrections. The Cardinal will then travel to the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago for an 11 a.m. visit with hospitalized children who cannot be home for Christmas.
