Chico and U.S. Rep. Gutierrez fire up hundreds at rally

Chico

(CHICAGO) More than 700 supporters and volunteers kicked off the final push to elect mayoral candidate Gery Chico at Roberto Clemente High School

  on Sunday, February 13, 2011.

Chico U.S. Rep. Gutierrez, one of Chico‘s leading supporters, fired up attendees to vote for Chico and blasted Rahm manuel for his failure to advocate for working families and immigration reform.

“Gery Chico has a record of improving the quality of life for working families, whether it was building parks and schools across the city or ending social promotion in our school system. By contrast, Rahm Emanuel turned his back on working families by fighting immigration reform to enable the heartbreaking deportations that have torn Chicago families apart,” U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said. “Chicago can make history in just nine days by electing its first mayor who is Latino but who also happens to be the best qualified candidate in the race. We must all get out to the polls to elect Gery Chico.”

Chico’s campaign has reached a new level of strength as it approaches the Feb. 22 election.

“It is time for a new direction,” Gery Chico said.  “I know how to make city government work and right now, it is not working for the citizens of Chicago.  As mayor, I will fight for working families and I will challenge the status quo to deliver outstanding results for the people.”

In addition to hundreds of supporters, Chico was joined by union leaders, faith leaders and local aldermen, all who praised Chico’s proven leadership and commitment to working families.
