Senator Ted Kennedy was an individual who had the vision and foresight to see a different America, an America ready for change. Described, as the “Liberal Lion”, Senator Kennedy was a force in the senate and in US politics for 50 years, where he helped define the country’s political landscape as we see it today. His leadership compiled an impressive list of legislative achievements on health care, civil rights, education, immigration and human rights.
The passing of this quintessential political powerhouse saddens me. I admired his work ethics and his fortitude, even while facing illness and death he never stopped fighting for the causes, which mattered most in his and our lives. Growing up, he and his family, through their legacy and demonstration of service gave me hope that I too could achieve the American Dream and one day become successful.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, who in this century has touched so many of our lives. Not only did we lose a political icon, but also, we must remember they lost a husband, a father, an uncle and a friend. No one is ever prepared for the loss of a loved one, and I hope they know that my prayers are with the family at this time.
