BOSTON (AP) – Everett Golson ran for a touchdown and threw for two more on Saturday night to help No. 4 Notre Dame beat Boston College 21-6 and keep its national championship hopes intact.

Taking the field one hour after top-ranked Alabama lost to No. 15 Texas A&M, the Fighting Irish (10-0) remained unbeaten and in the hunt for a spot in the BCS title game. And a week after needing triple overtime – and a lot of luck – to get past unheralded Pittsburgh, Notre Dame eased past a longtime rival that had twice before spoiled its hopes of a No. 1 finish.

We’d be foolish to target any type of date (to return),” Paxson said Tuesday on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “There’s going to have to be a significant amount of time that he spends on the practice floor before we would even entertain him getting into a game.

Charles Tillman and Bears’ D shut down Calvin Johnson and Detroit

Lions receiver Calvin Johnson entered Monday night’s game in Chicago averaging 112 receiving yards a game. Then he went up against Bears cornerback Charles Tillman.

The result was a bad game for Johnson, who caught just three of the 11 passes thrown to him, for 34 yards, and a bad game for the Lions’ offense. The Bears shut Detroit down until the Lions finally got into the end zone with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and when the Bears recovered the ensuing onside kick they had earned a hard-fought 13-7 victory.
