Deal Christmas is coming and it’s the last chance to get Christmas presents. According to a survey conducted by IIBR/Gemius for MyDeal.pl – the third largest group shopping service in Poland – Poles will spend PLN 9 billions, USD 2.6 billion on gifts, which is approximately 0.6% of the country’s GDP.

The average internet user interviewed for the survey intends to spend about PLN 460 on presents this year – 20% of the average monthly salary in Poland.  As women plan to spend about PLN 400, men will spend more – an average of PLN 525. Residents of larger cities (with a population over 500 thousand inhabitants) are predicted to spend most on their christmas baskets.

Similarly to 2010, traditional cosmetic and clothing stores are the most popular holiday shopping locations. The internet came in third place as 35% of Poles will buy presents online. The number of respondents  planning to use group shopping services has also increased,  from 4% in 2010 to 7% this year. On the contrary, fewer people are interested in online shops’ or auction sites’ offers. The most popular presents to be purchased via group shopping services like MyDeal.pl are books, toys, cosmetics and perfumes.

The survey ”Holiday Preferences of Poles 2011” was carried out on a sample of 1.000 internet users aged 18 or older via an online questionnaire between 21 and 26 November 2011.
