Polish President visits Italy and the Vatican

The President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki visited Italy and the Vatican; he was received in audience with Pope Leo XIV, and in Rome he held talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Head of Government Giorgia Meloni.
On Friday, the President of the Republic of Poland, accompanied by his family and delegation, was received in audience by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. President Karol Nawrocki has invited the Pope to Poland.
– I extended the invitation that my predecessor in office, President Andrzej Duda, had already sent to the Pope (…) I renewed the invitation seeing an opportunity for the Pope to come to Poland in 2027 to mark the anniversary of apparitions of Our Lady in Gietrzwald,’ Karol Nawrocki said during a briefing for the Polish media.
The President presented the Holy Father with an image of Our Lady of Gietrzwald. Gietrzwald will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Marian apparitions in 2027.
The President then went to the Quirinal Palace, the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic, for a meeting with Sergio Mattarella. The talks focused on ‘the excellent relations between Poland and Italy,’ which are based not only on economic ties, but also on security cooperation and collaboration within the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, Karol Nawrocki said.
He pointed out that all the meetings were also an opportunity to share the results of discussions with US President Donald Trump. 'Transatlantic relations also featured in all my meetings,’ he added.
Topics discussed during Thursday’s conversation with the Italian Prime Minister included security in the context of Russia’s aggressive policies, as well as the EU–Mercosur trade agreement.
– With Madam Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, we discussed the European Union–Mercosur agreement. The agreement is a threat to Polish farmers and as such I have opposed it from the very beginning, also as President of Poland,’ pointed out Karol Nawrocki. He added that the discussion concerned the threats that this agreement poses to farmers in Poland, Europe, France and Italy.
President Nawrocki is set to visit Paris and also Berlin on 16 September.
