Four talks on “Special Moments in Jewish History” will be offered at B’nai Yehuda Beth Sholom, 1424 West 183 Street, Homewood. IL 60430. This series is open to the public at no charge.
The first two speakers will present different perspectives on the “Revival of Interest in Jewish Culture in Modern Poland.”
On Friday, March 21, after the Friday night service which starts at 7:30 pm, our speaker will be Lucyna Migala who, since 1980, has been active in organizations to build bridges between Polish and Jewish communities in Chicago. She commissioned the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Memorial Cantata to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, and led the Lira Ensemble, which she founded and directs, in a performance of that piece.
On Sunday, March 23, at 1:30 pm, Michael Traison, a well-known Jewish attorney who practices in Chicago, Warsaw, and Herzliya, Israel, will also discuss modern Jewish-Polish relations. He has visited Poland regularly since 1992, and participates in an annual ceremony in Krakow that honors non-Jewish Poles who help preserve the Jewish heritage in Poland.
This series is open to the public at no charge and is funded through a mini-grant from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. Light refreshments will be served. Your friends and neighbors are cordially invited to attend.
