Polish-American families and friends gathered for the annual Koperek Klip on Friday, July 16, 2010. One of a series of annual garden parties that are intended to celebrate Polish heritage, the theme of “Koperek Klip” is that fine ethnic tradition of making fermented dill pickles. Attendees participate by taking a bottle and stuffing it full of cucumbers, garlic, and dill (i.e. “koperek”,) all in a salt brine solution.
The weather for Koperek Klip 2010 was warm and pleasant. The crowd was good sized, and there was plenty of food and drink to go around. Joanna Nastal led the pickling effort, Dobroslawa Bielinski lent her culinary expertise (and brought some goodies from “Delightful Pastries”,) Anna Klocek led the pot luck initiative, and “Fire-jumper Russel” (Russel Tatten) parachuted in to rescue the barbeque. Probably the best part, as usual, was the conversation – it’s just fun to talk to people while hanging out in the garden.
