POLISH INSTITUTE’S 67TH ANNUAL MEETING WILL BE HELD IN JERSEY CITY ON THE HUDSON JUNE 13-14, 2009
The 67th Annual Meeting of the Polish Institute of Arts & Sciences of America (PIASA) will be held on June 13-14, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City Hotel 2 Exchange Place , Jersey City , over looking the New York Harbor with a stunning sky line view of lower Manhattan. The Hotel is adjacent to PATH train station to Manhattan, 15 minutes from Newark Liberty International airport with an easy access to the New Jersey Turnpike. This two day multi-disciplinary conference on Polish , East Central European and Polish American studies is being organized in cooperation with the Polish Cultural Foundation, Clark, N.J.. According to Dr. Thaddeus V. Gromada, chairman of the Annual Meeting a Program Committee is hard at work preparing the conference whose main theme will be “1989: Annus Mirabilis; 20th Anniversary of Poland’s Independence”.
The Program Committee includes Dr. Jakub Grygiel, Johns Hopkins University; Dr. Patrice Dabrowski, Harvard University; Dr. Paul W. Knoll, University of Southern California; Dr. Charles S. Kraszewski, Kings College PA; Dr. Neal Pease, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Dr. Kathleen Cioffi, Princeton University Press; Dr. Donald E. Pienkos, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Dr. Susanne S. Lotarski, Polish American Congress DC and Dr. James S. Pula, Purdue University. Sessions dealing with the natural sciences and the history of science are being organized by Dr. Anne Hermanowski-Vosatka, Merck Research Laboratories; Dr. Hanna Kelker, New York University School of Medicine and Dr. Zbigniew Darzynkiewicz, New York Medical College. Scholars, scientists and graduate students are requested to send in their proposals for individual papers or preferably for full sessions to Dr. Gromada, by e mail [email protected] by March 31, 2009. Members of the local arrangements committee include Frederick Czulada, President of the Polish Cultural Foundation.
It is expected that more than one hundred scholars and scientists from all regions of the U.S. will make their presentation at panels/sessions in various disciplines including history, political science, literature, economics, music, history of science, etc. Participation in the conference is not limited to members of PIASA. Persons interested in the academic and cultural issues dealing with Poland and Polonia are also invited. All persons attending the conference are required to register and pay a registration fee.
