Earlier in the day, the Presidential Couple was officially welcomed by Swiss President Guy Parmelin and Mrs Caroline Parmelin during a ceremony held at Federal Square in Bern. President Karol Nawrocki then met with members of the Swiss Federal Council and delivered an address. The leaders of Poland and Switzerland also co–chaired plenary talks between the two delegations.
At the press conference, Polish President emphasized that his today’s talks with President Guy Parmelin centered on technology and economic cooperation.
Relations between Poland and Switzerland are highly developed and remain in very good shape, President Karol Nawrocki commented.
He noted that they are underpinned by regular dialogue across a wide range of areas — from politics and the economy to culture and social affairs.
He also recalled that the volume of trade between Poland and Switzerland amount to almost €8 billion. Back in 2025 it grew by over 7% year on year. He went on to say that he hoped more Swiss entrepreneurs would choose to invest in Poland.
Security issues also featured prominently in the talks. President Karol Nawrocki stressed that Russia would “remain the principal threat to European security even after the war in Ukraine comes to an end”.
Against this backdrop, the leaders also discussed tightening sanctions against Russia. President Nawrocki argued that the measures were producing tangible results and increasingly weighing on the Russian economy, adding that they should be maintained in order to further constrain Moscow’s ability to finance its military aggression. “The ultimate goal, of course, is a lasting and just peace,” he said.
President Karol Nawrocki also underscored the importance of maintaining a strong transatlantic alliance with the United States.
During a meeting with members of the Swiss Federal Council, President Karol Nawrocki recalled that in November ten years will have passed since the last official visit of the Polish leader to this country.
This is a good opportunity to meet again and discuss issues of importance to Polish–Swiss relations, he stressed in his speech.
He drew attention to the intensification of trade relations between the two countries. He added that more and more Polish entrepreneurs are choosing to invest in Swiss cities. – I am glad that Swiss entrepreneurs are also keen to invest in Poland. Indeed, Switzerland is one of the largest non–EU investors in my country. I also note with satisfaction the growing volume of trade exchange between Poland and Switzerland,” he said.
He noted that, driven by the dynamic growth of the Polish economy, Poland would this year participate for the first time in the work of the G20 and attend the Group’s Summit in Miami in December.
Poland is a leader in our region — not only in terms of economic development, but also in what matters most today: defence and security, President Karol Nawrocki said. He stressed that Poland allocates nearly five per cent of its GDP to defence spending — close to USD 50 billion.
In the same vein, he highlighted that while investing into armaments Poland ensures security of the eastern flank, but also of the North Atlantic Alliance is a whole. “Together with our partners, we seek to ensure a strong and secure Europe”, he said.
Later in the evening, President Karol Nawrocki and the First Lady attended an official dinner hosted by the Swiss Presidential Couple.
