First Collegiate Goal for Borawski

Borawski, a freshman,  started the Titan scoring at 25:24.  She headed in a ball from Abby McCollum and Nina Carter for her first collegiate goal. 
Detroit (8-6-1, 4-2 Horizon League) hosted Madonna (8-6, 4-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) in the fourth meeting ever between the two teams. The Titans have won their last three games.

“I just made the run in and I saw Nina about to play the ball. I thought Abby had it but I was there just in case and Nina played a great ball. It happened to take a bounce and I headed it and it found the back of the net,” said Borawski.  

Haley Burtraw fired from the top of the 18-yard box that found the upper right corner of the net in the 42nd minute for her fourth of the season.  The shot gave Detroit a 2-0 lead heading into the half.  The Titans entered the break with an 11-0 advantage in total shots.
The third goal of the match was another first as Leone, a senior defender took a shot from the right of the 18-yard box and after the ball made its way around a few defenders, it found its way into the back of the net for her first goal in 62 career games.
Madonna freshman goalkeeper Blaire Schalenberg made five saves and the loss broke a five game winning streak for the Lady Crusaders.   Detroit-Mercy finished the day with a dominating 20-1 overall advantage in total shotsand had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. 

“We started off a little slow but after about 20 minutes we started to pick up our game and play our level of soccer,” added Borawski. 

Detroit goalkeeper Nora Abolins coasted as she tied the school’s all-time mark with her 23rd career shutout.  Former UDM goalkeepers Alisson Dube and Katie Fortenberry are now in a three-way tie for the all-time shutout mark.

In a recent WHAC match, Madonna sophomore Katlyn Krysiak of Madison Heights, Michigan scored her second hat trick of the season as part of a 4-0 win over visiting Concordia at the Madonna Athletic Complex in Livonia, Michigan. 

Detroit will play its final contest of the regular season at home on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. against Youngstown State and Madonna  will host Indiana Institute of Technology also on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
