Follow PLFA referee Alex Zarganis on his trip to the Kili Bowl

Zarganis will leave Poland on Sunday morning, stopping in Rome and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, en route to Kilimanjaro International Airport. On his arrival he will meet Kili Bowl referee Bill LeMonnier, who worked as the white hat in this year’s NCAA BCS national championship game, as well as the rest of the 7-man crew. Zarganis will spend most of the week preparing for his position at Field Judge during the Kili Bowl, although there are several events planned around the game such as football clinics for local children and a day-long safari in a local national park.

Zarganis has lived in the Polish capital of Warsaw for the past six years and is an educational consultant and tutor there. He has officiated the last three Polish national championship games and is currently in his fourth year as an official, having taken charge of more than 100 games in Poland, where American football is enjoying a positive surge in interest.

“As an official in the Polish League of American Football, I consider myself an ambassador of the game,” said Zarganis. “I am greatly looking forward to continuing in that role in Tanzania, not only on the field in Arusha but at the other events surrounding the game as well.”

Zarganis is the only American official in the PLFA and is a fully qualified EFAF (European Federation of American Football) official. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, he is a graduate of UC Davis and is also a professional wresting referee in Poland.
