“16 years ago to the day, we played at the New York State Fair for the first time, as we played on the K-Rock Stage,” said Fritz Scherz, band leader of Fritz’s Polka Band. “It was great to return to this event and play for three standing room only crowds for each of our three sets! The audience was very enthusiastic all day. Some of the tunes they applauded loudest for included ‘Fred’s Polka’, which was the last tune my Dad ever wrote; ‘Pay Me My Money Down’, which we did at the end of the first set; ‘There’s A Party’, which we put a new twist on to start the second set; ‘Squeezebox’, which we played a the end of the second set; and ‘Tribute’, which we dedicated to the Veterans during our third set. The members of FPB want to thank Sharron Pearson for booking FPB and Shawn, for doing a great job on sound today. Last, but certainly not least, we want to thank all of the people that attended our performances and helped make this gig so memorable!”
Fritz’s Polka Band has been performing for over 33 years, and made history in 1999, when they became the first polka band to perform at a Woodstock Festival in Rome, NY. FPB has made 17 recordings and even appears on “The Manchurian Candidate” DVD which was released in July 2004. FPB won a Just Plain Folks Music Award in the Best Polka Song category for Bialczak’s Polka on November 4, 2008. FPB won an Upper State Independent (USI) Award in Syracuse, NY, in the International Category in 2008 and
2009. In June 2009, FPB won their first ever Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) in the Best Recording: Other Styles category for their “Reflections” recording. In 2010, FPB was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame. Last year, Fritz’s Polka Band had two songs (‘Grandparent’s Polka’ and ‘Here Is Fritz’s Polka Band’) included in two different episodes of the hit TV show, ‘Breaking Bad’, seen on the AMC channel. FPB was also nominated last year for an USI Award.
