“Trainspotting USA”

Drugs are a serious problem in this country! I am sure that the rest of the world feels the same way.Irvine Welsh’s “Trainspotting USA”, now onstage at Theater WIT is an Americanized adaptation of his novel “Trainspotting” about a group of young addicts in Scotland which has now been moved to Kansas City Missouri. The film which, a 1996 release has been ranked in the top 100 British films of “all time” . The first adaptation from film to stage was done by Harry Gibson and toured the UK for many years. There are some who call this a “cult” film, one that teenagers should be forced to see, so they can learn from the experiences of these hopeless young people who turn to drugs as their only way of coping with life.

“Jesus Christ Superstar”

It seems that Stacey Flaster is everywhere! Having just completed the marvelous “A Class Act” at Theater Wit for Porchlight, and preparing for some of her other upcoming gigs, she managed to take on a smaller task for Big Noise Theatre Company ( her mother is involved with this organization) and has , in my mind, become Stacey Flaster, Superstar! Hew directorial skills are unique and her choreography, amazing!

“Smoky Joe’s Cafe”

Author: Alan Bresloff

Category: Cabaret, Theatre Reviews

*****One of the reasons I enjoy seeing productions at The No Exit Cafe, produced by TheoUbique , is the intimacy that we the audience get with the performers. Not just on the stage in this quaint little storefront located in Rogers Park, but the fact that the performers are also our hosts and waitstaff for the  evening. Whether you have the dinner, a drink, coffee or a home-made desert, you get to speak with the performers who grace their stage. It is called “Cabaret Theatre” partly because of the intimacy, but in many cases, they opt to do non-scripted shows where they focus on bringing familiar songs to us with some dance and movement.

“The Fall of the House of Usher”

Recommended*** Most Chicago theater-goers, when they see the name Sean Graney’s name attached to a production, know that they are in for something special and very different. That is what he represents in the theater community.
