In addition, many residents who were flooded or suffered other damage – but weren’t impacted by water that came DIRECTLY from flooded rivers and streams – do not know that they may be eligible for federal assistance, as well, even if they were many miles from waterways that actually flooded.
FEMA and SBA officials will field questions about assistance provided to date to area residents, a figure that currently tops $30 million, and will talk in greater detail about the loan application process, which can be initiated by phone or online.
“We just want to get the word out to residents and businesses as widely as possible that it is still possible to get assistance – and we want to help make that happen,” said President Stroger., who declared the County a disaster area a day after flooding began in September, setting in motion the process to make federal assistance available to local residents and businesses.
