Today’s vote by the Illinois House to change the number of votes needed by the Cook County Board of Commissioners to override a veto of the Board President from 4/5ths to 2/3rds is another sign of the leadership crisis in Cook County.  In 2008 the County Board passed an ordinance taking the running of the Health and Hospital System from the Board President.  Last year the General Assembly changed control of the Juvenile Detention Center from the Board President.  Today’s change was put forth to allow the Cook County Commissioners another chance to repeal the sales-tax increase.  Having the highest sales-tax in the nation is irresponsible; it is driving businesses out of Cook County and killing jobs.

“I am in the County Board President race to be the voice of people who are struggling,” said Dorothy Brown.  “Cook County government cannot continually ask taxpayers to bailout failed county leadership.”

Last month Dorothy Brown released her plan to lower the sales-tax, while continuing to fund the County Health Care System and balancing the budget.  Details can be found on her website at www.friendsofdorothybrown.com.

As Clerk of the Circuit Court she has saved tax payers over 187 million dollars.  It is Dorothy Brown’s proven record of success, financial acumen, and executive management experience that Cook County needs to end the fiscal and mismanagement crisis, and lower the sales-tax while funding Cook County government with non-tax revenue.  Dorothy Brown says that we need “New Ideas, Not New Taxes.”
