Organization approved for two grants, each worth $250,000

(CHICAGO—March 24, 2009) The Chicago Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center announced today that it has been approved to receive two grants for $250,000 each from the Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust. The monies are to be used for the building of the Ray and Joan Kroc Center in the West Pullman neighborhood on the city’s far South Side. The Chicago Kroc Center, an entity of The Salvation Army, expects to receive the grants in the fall of 2009.

“We are sincerely grateful to the Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust for these very generous grants,” said Lieutenant Colonel David Grindle, divisional commander, The Salvation Army. “In these tough times, the grants are doubly important because the current economy has made things difficult for everyone—from non-profit organizations to the people we help, Chicago’s neediest. The Chicago Community Trust is a godsend to non-profits as we do our work during times of economic turmoil because without them, a lot of the work we do would quite possibly not get done.”

The Chicago Community Trust has partnered with thousands of organizations to enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities across metropolitan Chicago for more than 93 years.

16 marca, br. odbyło się spotkanie na rzecz poparcia koalicji wyborczej polonijnej kandydatki – Barbary Piltaver na burmistrza miasteczka Schiller Park (pn.-zach. przedmieścia Chicago).

W spotkaniu uczestniczyło kilkadziesiąt osób.  Wśród mówców byli m.in. Frank Spula, Prezes ZNP i KPA oraz dr Victor Forys, niedawny kandydat na Kongresmana.

Barbara Piltaver przewodzi koalicji wyborczej pod hasłem “People for Change” (“Ludzie na rzecz zmian”) www.votepfc09.com   

Wraz z nią o wybór na radnego ubiega się Andy Siemionko, Sandra Rosario i James Van Vorus oraz Lisa Macias na urząd sekretarza miejskiego.

Polish American Congress, Illinois Division Elections – 2009  

A CANDIDATE WITH A MISSION     

As  we  are  about  to  set  a  new  course  for  the  Polish  American  Congress  by  electing  a new  President  for  the  Illinois  Division,  we  must  a  vision  to  restore  the  faith  and confidence  of  Polonia,  so  that  the  Congress  will  become  once  again  an  institution  where Polish‐Americans  can  turn  to  for  guidance  and  assistance.  And  above  all,  we  must unite and  mobilize  Polonia  of  all  ages  to  pursue  the  “American  Dream”  by  exercising  their constitutional  rights  to  improve  our  political,  social,  and  economic  status  in  the  United States.  We  must  not  fear  to  project  strongly  and  visibly,  what  our  aspirations  and ambitious  goals  are  at  every  level  of  the  local,  state  and  Federal  Government.

Wśród Laureatów tegorocznych Laurów Umiejętności i Kompetencji znalazł się znany chirurg z Chicago, Prof. Dr. hab. Marek Rudnicki.  Uhonorowany on został Platynowym Laurem „Ambasador Spraw Polskich”.  Te prestiżowe nagrody były przyznawane już po raz siedemnasty przez środowiska gospodarcze i polityczne województw śląskiego i opolskiego.

Uroczysta gala, która miała miejsce  17 stycznia w Zabrzu,  zgromadziła prawie dwa tysiące widzów, przedstawicieli władz państwowych i regionalnych.  Laurami uhonorowano wybitne osobowości świata polityki, sztuki, nauki, kościoła, kultury, biznesu.

Najwyższym uznanie  – Diamentowy Laur Umiejętności i Kompetencji otrzymał reżyser Andrzej Wajda.

– Diamentowy Laur przekazano na ręce kogoś, kto widział, jak rozwija się polska filmografia, jak rodzą się talenty w środowisku filmowym – mówił Mistrz odbierając  wyróżnienie przyznane przez Kapitułę Laurów.

W tym roku wśród laureatów znaleźli się także m.in. minister spraw zagranicznych Radosław Sikorski, prezes Fundacji TVN „Nie jesteś sam” Bożena Walter, ordynariusz gliwicki bp Jan Wieczorek, Zespół Pieśni i Tańca „Śląsk”.

Chicago, March 12, 2009 – Mayor Richard M. Daley today identified more than $1 billion in city projects in the areas of education, infrastructure, job creation and training, housing, energy efficiency and public safety that are likely to be funded under the formula funding portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act during a press conference held at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St.

“In Chicago, we’re moving to take full advantage of the diverse opportunities the program offers. It builds on the many steps we’re taking here to do our part to kick start our economy and help people get through the worst economy in modern times,” Mayor Daley said.
