Tuesday night the awesome 150′ ski jumping tower in Fox River Grove was lined with club members as well as volunteers from the community as the annual 107 year old ritual of snowing the enormous structure began.
At the bottom were men and women stuffing burlap bags with snow and lifting them onto the end of the jump. Next the heavy bulging sacks of snow had to be passed from one to another until they reached their destination 150′ higher than they began. After the first few thousand bags are dumped the sound level of members talking and joking around tends to subside but the enthusiasm returns to full volume and elation as the tower shows less and less of its bare iron surface and is slowly transformed into the beautiful sculptured ski slide we all gaze at as we make our way through the gates on tournament day.
