Chicago, IL (March 23, 2012) – Tickets for the special concert in honor of the one-year anniversary of the Beatification of Pope John Paul II, are now available through the Symphony Center box office, online at www.cso.org, or by calling 312-294-3000.
Peace Through Music – In the Spirit of John Paul – Chicago 2012, will be held at 8 p.m., on Monday, April 23, in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, 220 South Michigan Avenue. Participants in the concert include, the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and four internationally renowned vocal soloists, under the direction of Sir Gilbert Levine, who is known as the Pope’s Maestro.
“The kinds of things His Holiness wished were concerts that were more than concerts. They always embodied his extraordinary message of peace”, said Levine.
On the program will be selections that His Holiness John Paul often requested, including, Bogurodzica, an Ancient Polish Hymn; Edward T. Cone’s Psalm 91 (1948); Bach’s Magnificat, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”.
Sir Gilbert Levine is joined in presenting this event by Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago, along with organizations
including: Chicago Symphony Chorus, Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, WFMT Radio Network, Pax Per Musicam Foundation, Polish National Alliance, Polish Roman Catholic Union, Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Polish Museum of America, Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, and the American Jewish Committee.
