Quigley claims Democratic nomination in race to replace Rahm Emanuel

Mike Quigley Quigley, 50, grew up in Carol Stream but started his political career in Chicago, working as an aide to establishment Ald. Bernard Hansen (44th) while studying for his master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago.
CHICAGO — Voters selected Mike Quigley Tuesday as the Democratic candidate to succeed Rahm Emanuel, who resigned his seat in the Fifth Congressional District to become President Obama’s chief of staff.

Mike Quigley, a Cook County commissioner, led the field of 12 Democrats with 22 % of the vote, followed by two state representatives, John Fritchey with 18 % of the vote, Sara Feigenholtz with 17 %, Victor Forys with 12 %, Patrick O’Connor with 11 %. The rest ended up with only a one digit result.

As the Democratic candidate, Mr. Quigley, who campaigned as a reformer and fiscal watchdog, is expected to be the front-runner in the April 7 special election.

Mr. Quigley will face the winner of the Republican Party primary, Rosanna Pulido, and a Green Party candidate Mathew Reichel
