Four-score years ago our forefathers overwhelmingly elected Herbert Hoover to serve as President of the United States. He was inaugurated March 4, 1929, just in time to take the rap for not preventing the Wall Street crash of October 29, 1929, which according to the conventional wisdom, triggered the Great Depression.

Of course, it was a bum rap; under then current law, the President was essentially powerless to affect what did or did not happen on Wall Street.

Przed dwoma laty otwarto wystawe Biura Edukacji Publicznej IPN Zaglada polskich elit – Akcja AB – Katyn. Od tego czasu wystawa odwiedza rozne miasta Polski. Od 12 pazdziernika (niedziela) bedzie eksponowana (do konca pazdziernika) w sali przy kosciele Chrystusa Krola w Wejherowie. To szczegolne miejsce, poniewaz kosciol ten jest „brama” do oddalonego o 9 km miejsca masowych mordow na Polakach (jesien 1939 – wiosna 1940) – Lasu Piasnickiego, gdzie Niemcy zamordowali i zakopali w dolach 12 tysiecy ludzi. Pozniejsza (1940) akcje AB na terenie tzw. Generalnej Guberni (m.in. Palmiry) poprzedzily masowe zabojstwa przedstawicieli polskiej inteligencji Pomorza i w ogole ziem polskich wcielonych dekretem Hitlera z 8 pazdziernika 1939 r. do Niemiec. Rozpoczely sie one juz we wrzesniu 1939 r.

When Krystyna Teller approached me about writing this article, I thought oh my gosh, can I? Will I? How? The article was supposed to be psychological = enlightening and full of wisdom. How can I possibly manage? Psychology is not my domain; the years spent on studying human psyche (and here I think of my formal education as well as casual observations) led me to two conclusions: we know very little about our fellow human beings, and understand even less. To make the matter worse the article was to be about self-esteem, a subject I personally know nothing about. (Isn’t it an encouraging beginning?)

According to the latest US Census, just over nine million Americans have been identified as having Polish ancestry, or about 3.3% of the total population. In states known for their sizable Polonian concentrations (including Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut) we are speaking of 10-12% of the overall population and in certain metropolitan areas it may be higher than that. But even in those heavily Polish-populated areas, are 10% or even 3% of the things people see around them and come into contact with conspicuously Polish? That, of course, is a rhetorical question, to which everybody knows the answer!

October – Polish American Heritage Month

Polish American Heritage Month was first celebrated in 1981 in Pennsylvania. Originally, August was the month selected to focus in on the contributions of great Americans of Polish descent that were often not recognized. Michael Blichasz of Philadelphia, a fourth generation Polish American, started in an effort to bring to the forefront the strong pride he believed all Americans of Polish heritage should have in the successes that Polish Americans have made in America.

10,000 nowych rejestracji w ostatnich dwóch dniach przed zbliżającym się terminem 7 października.

Mieszkańcy Chicago upoważnieni do głosowania w dalszym ciągu mają wiele możliwości rejestracji, mają możliwość aktualizacji adresu. Termin rejestracji i aktualizacji adresu mija 7 października. Formalności te niezbędne są po to by wziąć udział w Wyborach Prezydenckich 4 listopada.

Przewodniczący Chicago Board of Election, Langdon D. Neal oświadczył, iż w mieście Chicago

obecnie jest zarejestrowanych 1,410,000 wyborców, liczba ta wzrosła od prawyborów 2008r., gdzie zarejestrowanych wyborców było 1,307,519. Rejestracja wzrosła od ostatnich prezydenckich wyborów, nawet pomimo usunięcia 85,000 nieaktualnych rejestracji podczas przeprowadzonego “canvass” tego lata.
