It is our pleasure to inform about a special celebration of Polish music. On Monday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra will present “A Polish Celebration.”

This concert, dedicated to contemporary Polish composers who have made their mark on classical repertoire, will feature Grażyna Bacewicz’s ferocious In una parte; Krzysztof Penderecki’s dense, brooding Violin Concerto No. 2 (“Metamorphosen”); and the energetic, capering Concerto for Orchestra by Witold Lutosławski.

Chicago – may 2, 2008 – From serving meals to picking up trash, providing medical assistance and filling water bottles, the all-volunteer crew is vital to the success of the Breast Cancer 3-Day. In honor of National Volunteer Week, April 27-May 3, the Breast Cancer 3-Day recognizes the hundreds of men and women who devote four days to ensure each walker completes the 60-mile journey.

Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a series of three-day, 60-mile walks that raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs. Throughout the event participants receive everything they need for an enjoyable experience: hot meals, snacks galore, medical assistance, sleeping tents, entertainment and even transportation for tired feet. As most of these services are provided by Breast Cancer 3-Day crew members, the event would not be possible without their commitment.

CHICAGO, IL – At a ceremony in Chicago today, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) received the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland from Minister Michal Kaminski and Minister Robert Draba from the Chancellery of the President of Poland. This award is given by the Republic of Poland to foreigners and Poles abroad for distinguished contribution to cooperation between Poland and other countries.

Recently, the United States gained a new world record: Having the largest prison population of any country in the world.

It is also of note that far more than half of the total prison population in the US is for drug related offenses. And in the US, unlike México, the drug related prisoners are mostly from the lower end drug offenses (local suppliers and possession of small amounts of drugs). In México, they tend to go more for the high-end drug chiefs.

It is also a fact that in many areas in the US they don’t know where to put all of those criminals. Early release programs are springing up everywhere. And exacerbating the situation is the growing „three strikes and you are out” laws.

W związku z powyższym zapraszamy wszystkich zainteresowanych na uroczystość podniesienia flagi polskiej, z udziałem Pana Premiera Pawlaka, która odbędzie się na Placu Daleya (Daley’s Plaza, 50 W. Washington St., Chicago) o godz. 10:00 rano. Następnie, Pan Waldemar Pawlak otworzy wystawę „Współczesna Architektura Warszawy” (Daley Center), która – w rozbudowanej wersji – zaprezentowana zostanie także w dniach 5-9 maja br. w siedzibie władz stanowych (James R.
