(Lombard, IL) – At a summit on Amtrak service in Normal, Senator Dick Durbin called for improvements in rail in Illinois after a friend of his complained about having to wait for a train to catch a Cubs game. “After more than a quarter century in WashingtonD.C., out of touch Dick Durbin just figured out that Amtrak is unable to handle the growing demand for rail use in Illinois,” said Christopher Hage, Campaign Manager for Steve Sauerberg, M.D. “Increasing demand for rail didn’t happen overnight. Amtrak’s fleet didn’t age overnight. The degradation of Illinois‘ manufacturing base through over-regulation and a runaway tort system didn’t occur overnight. All of this, however, did occur on Dick Durbin’s watch.”
