“It is with sadness that we report that Polish-born Nicholas Rey, who actively supported Poland’s transition to freedom and democracy after the fall of communism in 1989, and served as US Ambassador to Poland from 1993-1997, died of lung cancer in Washington on Tuesday night, January 13,” announced U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe. Rey was named Ambassador by former President Bill Clinton in recognition for his work in creating and leading the Polish-American Enterprise Fund, the forerunner to today’s Polish-American Freedom Foundation.

During his tenure, Poland was invited to join NATO and enjoyed strong growth of its economy and democratic institutions. Ambassador Ashe added that both Poland and America lost a dear friend. “As Ambassador, Nicholas Rey contributed greatly to strengthening the friendship and special relations that exist between our two countries,” said Ashe. “With his background, he symbolized that relationship in many ways.  I am proud that I was able to know him and draw inspiration from him during my tenure as Ambassador.  He and Lisa were personally most helpful to me and my wife Joan during my nomination process in the spring of 2004.”

Barak Hussein Obama II rodzony w Honolulu na Hawajach 1961 roku był bardzo zdolnym dzieckiem muzułmanina, murzyna z Kenii i białej protestantki, absolwentki Harvard University, której matka wychowywała go. Jako nastolatek nazywany „Barry,” był on dobrym graczem w koszykówkę i nie miał on poczucia tożsamości Afro-Amerykanina wśród wielorasowej ludności hawajskiej. Z wiekiem zrozumiał jednak, że w USA „kropla krwi” afrykańskiej decyduje o określaniu człowieka jako murzyna i jednocześnie zauważył, że małżeństwo murzyna z białą kobietą zraża do niego innych murzynów a zwłaszcza murzynki.

Obama spędził z matką, zawodowym antropologiem, kilka lat w muzułmańskiej Indonezji, w Dżakarcie, po czym wrócił do rodziców matki do Honolulu, gdzie ukończył gimnazjum w 1979 roku, w którym to gimnazjum używał narkotyków oraz pił dużo napoi alkoholowych, co w 2008 roku, na forum publicznym, określił on jako największy upadek moralny jego życia.

The Celebration of the 90th Anniversary of Poland’s Independence Day & 2008 =Paderewski Lecture-Recital was held on November 10 in the University of Southern California’s Bovard Auditorium. This event, co-organized by the Polish Music Center at USC and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in L.A., honored two outstanding Polish artists well known in the United States for their significant contributions to film music and cinematography: composer Wojciech Kilar and cinematographer Janusz Kamiński.

The evening began with remarks addressed to an enthusiastic, full house by Consul General Paulina Kapuścińska on the spirit of Poland’s self-determination throughout its troubled history and its pride in regaining its independence 90 years ago in 1918.

Wojciech Kilar, the Polish Music Center’s 2008 Paderewski Lecturer, was unable to attend but was ‘present’ via a recorded interview conducted by Krzesimir Dębski in Poland and edited by Marek Zebrowski, Program Director of the PMC.   Speaking about both his film and his concert music, Kilar distinguished between the two, noting that “Film music is functional … A piece of music is like a story, having a beginning, development and an end.  However, in films they are broken down into bits, lasting a few, or a dozen or so seconds, or a few minutes.  In this aspect, it is music which is much easier to write….. when I write a symphony or a mass, I start from nothing.  Literally! …..As far as my own symphonic music is concerned, it can sometimes take years.”

The Foreign Ministers of the NATO-Ukraine Commission met on December 3^rd in Brussels, to discuss NATO-Ukraine relations and intensive engagement in the context of the Bucharest Summit decisions regarding Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.  

Reaffirming the importance of the NATO-Ukraine relationship, they have reviewed the developments of their relations since the Bucharest Summit. They noted with satisfaction that the NATO-Ukraine political dialogue has further deepened, and an increasing number of high-level contacts have taken place during the period of intensive engagement, including the successful visit of the North Atlantic Council to Ukraine in June 2008 and the Tallinn High-level Consultations of NATO and Ukraine Defense Ministers in November 2008.

They reiterated that the well-structured and mutually beneficial relationship between NATO and Ukraine over the past 11 years in the Distinctive Partnership has contributed, and will continue to contribute, to regional and Euro-Atlantic security.

Po wielu latach zmiennej prosperity, jakaś zadziwiająco duża część Amerykanów uwierzyła, że los swój zamiast, jak dotychczas trzymać w swoich rękach, należy powierzyć opiece państwa. Upaństwowienie szeregu przedsiębiorstw od banków poczynając poprzez przemysł samochodowy stało się faktem. Na pewno przyjdzie kolej na energetykę oraz kopalnictwo, ropy nie wyłączając. To, co pozostanie, to bardzo naprawdę bardzo drobny przemysł i usługi w rękach prywatnych przedsiębiorców, którzy już od czasu Roosvelta bez przerwy borykają się z tym samym: skąd wziąć gotówkę na podtrzymanie funkcji życiowych. Ta codzienna zmora z całą pewnością nie pozwala im spać spokojnie, a o szczęściu mogą jedynie… zapomnieć.

W czasie spotkań towarzyskich rozmowa o gospodarce jest tak samo trefnym tematem, jak rozmowa o polityce. W USA wszyscy znają niepisaną konwencję: o polityce się nie rozmawia. No chyba, że czyjeś intencje zmierzają w kierunku pokłócenia się ze wszystkimi – wtedy tylko – ależ proszę bardzo. O ekonomii mało kto rozmawia w kategoriach państwa. Tak jakby makroekonomia nie istniała, tak jakby wpływ państwa na to, co się dzieje w gospodarce wynosił zero, tak jakby państwo a dosadniej amerykański rząd, nie miał żadnych w tej dziedzinie prerogatyw. Istotnie zresztą, kiedy czyta się amerykańskie przepisy dotyczące działalności gospodarczej, ma się wrażenie, że największy wysiłek edytora tekstu poszedł w kierunku jak najbardziej dyplomatycznego sposobu zapisu, w którym odpowiedzialność państwa jest wyłączona, a odpowiedzialność podmiotu gospodarczego – przeciwnie. Tylko trzeba chcieć. […]

a new state ethics law takes effect January 1, 2009.

BUFFALO, NEW YORK, December 8, 2008 – Forgotten Buffalo Tours will partner with 2008 Grammy Award Nominated Polka Band Jerry Darlak and the Touch for an evening of “polka caroling” in support of a beloved Eastside charity. The tour will take place on Friday, December 19th at 5:30pm and visit taverns in Cheektowaga, Black Rock and in the Historic Polonia District near the Broadway Public Market.

Traditional Polish carols called “kolendy” as well as American standards will be performed along the way. Tour participants will also learn about the rich history of Buffalo’s “Polonia District” and about centuries old Polish Christmas traditions such as the Christmas Eve “Wigilia” dinner and the breaking of the “oplatek,” a Polish Christmas wafer.

Proceeds of this special Forgotten Buffalo Tour will benefit the work of Sister Johnice and the St. Adalbert’s Response to Love Center located at 130 Kosciuszko Street in Buffalo. Response to Love operates one of the area’s largest food pantries and is staffed by volunteers and supervised by Felician sisters.

Pisze o  Amerykańskim Kryzysie

Nigdy nie przypuszczałem, że ja, naiwny malkontent mogę przewidzieć zjawiska w dziedzinie ekonomicznej nie mając dostępu do tak zwanych. „źródeł” wywiadu i fanansiery. A jednak, a może właśnie dlatego, że jestem naiwnym obserwatorem a nie członkiem  koterii bankowej lub rządowej, która zmusza do konformizmu i politycznej poprawności, widzę rzeczy jaśniej z pewnej perspektywy.

Jestem zdumiony, że moje wypowiedzi pojawiają się w czasopismach, które tak zwana prasa głównego nurtu, określa jako klerykalne lub szowinistyczne. Kuda mi tam do klerykalizmu, mnie który nie praktykuje żadnej zorganizowanej religii. Być może jednak, że  właśnie czasopisma, pozostające na obrzeży zmonopolizowanych mediów, maja więcej wolności i odwagi wspominania o rzeczach i wypadkach, które zahaczają o prawdę.

W swych dwu ostatnich artykułach publikowanych tu i ówdzie pod tytułem „ Katastrofa przyjdzie pojutrze” i „Ameryka w Finansowym Bagnie”, próbowałem uświadomić czytelnikowi chwiejność amerykańskiego systemu finansowego i zagrożenia jakie płyną z przekonania, że  dobrobyt może być „wirtualny”, czyli pozorny albo urojony. Z można go tworzyć poprzez manipulacje bankowe i mydlenie ludziom głowy za pomocą przekonania o ich, finansistów,  nieomylności.

Irvine, Calif. – Students, teachers and parents have the chance to have their voices heard in Washington D.C. and in state capitals on creating the ultimate school, technology use in learning and 21st century skills by taking part in the national Speak Up survey. The findings will be shared with Congress and the new Administration in March 2009.
