The UEFA EURO 2012 Follow the Trophy tour will now stop at seven Ukraine cities after completing the recent Poland roadshow. The displays and activities will be in Kharkiv for three days starting on May 15, followed by a stop in Donetsk. The finish of the caravan tour will be in Odesa on May 26.
The 2012 European soccer championship that will be held in Poland and Ukraine from June 8, through July 1, were previewed last week in Poland. On display was the Henri Delaunay Cup along with EURO 2012 mascots Slavek and Slavko. Music, contests and all around enthusiasm was part of the showcase. The Henri Delaunay trophy is named after the first secretary-general of the Union of European Football Associations.
“Everywhere I went in Poland I sensed the growing excitement. I am sure the Euro 2012 will be a huge and fantastic event for Poland. This trophy tour is a sign that the tournament is very close,” said legendary Polish soccer star Andrzej Szarmach.
The clock is ticking down for the beginning of the matches for the 16 National teams that will compete. Poland is in Group A with Greece, Russia and Czech Republic. Ukraine is in Group D with Sweden, France and England.
It was announced that a new batch of tickets has been released for the matches in Ukraine. Volunteers are still needed for the closing ceremonies extravaganza on July 1, in Kyiv. http://ceremony.uefa.com/uefaeuro2012/
