Zakażenia wywołane przez EHEC
E_cola Zakażenie przewodu pokarmowego wywołane przez Escherichia coli może mieć  różny przebieg w zależności od typu bakterii odpowiedzialnego za zakażenie. Najcięższe zakażenia są powodowane przez szczepy enterokrwotoczne, EHEC (enterohemorragic  E.coli). Naturalnym miejscem bytowania patogennych E.coli jest przewód pokarmowy bydła rogatego, owiec, kóz oraz innych zwierząt. Przyczyną zakażenia może być spożywanie zanieczyszczonego mięsa (np. nie-dosmażonego) i produktów pochodzenia zwierzęcego  (sandwicze mięsne, steki wołowe, niepasteryzowane mleko, jogurt, majonez), zanieczyszczonej wody pitnej, a także sałaty, owoców oraz innych surowych pokarmów, które zostały umyte skażoną wodą. W latach 80-tych XX wieku w USA odnotowano wiele zakażeń pokarmowych o bardzo ciężkim przebiegu. Przyczyną było skażenie bakteriami E.coli mięsa wołowego, z którego przygotowywano hamburgery.

Whenever somebody absolutely has to have something that’s called demand, and addiction creates enormous demand, which means there are massive profits in supplying what we crave – so when it comes to combating addictive behavior, we are wasting taxpayer dollars by trying to engineer strictly political solutions.  It goes without saying that addictions can be extremely expensive – both to individuals and the nation as a whole.

The more widespread an addiction the more likely it is to be seen as normal, and since it often comes packaged as just a harmless distraction, by the time we realize something is wrong we are well and truly hooked!  In fact, the most dangerous addictions are the ones we fail to even diagnose as addictive behavior because we have accepted them as normal. That’s why it has to be up to us as individuals to stop the insanity!

Jane Velez-Mitchell candidly points out that addiction determines our behavior and this has led to a nation now dependent on dysfunctions that include obsessive cleanliness, food addictions, prescription drug dependency, sexual exploitation, overconsumption, crime, and yes – even cruelty!  Jane hopes that by bringing attention to our nation’s addictive culture, we can escape the hold our worst impulses have on us.
